Every company you encounter has a niche. And the companies that say they don’t are talking bollocks. Reason being, you need to know exactly who your target audience is.

No excuses.

We get it. We’ve heard it before. You want to work with as many people as you possibly can. Customers are customers, right? You don’t want to exclude anyone. You don’t want to miss out on opportunities. It sounds logical and we understand that.

However, you need to know who you’re targeting to sort of play the odds. Who can you market at to make sure that your chances of converting them into customers are high?

Yes, you might gain customers on the periphery of that. However, unless you know your niche, you’re not going to be able to know exactly the tone of voice to use, how to market to them, what kind of communications to use, what platforms to use etc. All of these things that pull those customers towards you.

Not everyone likes burgers!

Think about it from a marketing perspective. We’re running some adverts for you and 300 people clicked to your website. Well, that’s great, but who were they?

You don’t know if they were worth anything to your company. You don’t know if they’re going to help. If you’ve just sent your ad out there into the world without niching, who knows who you’re going to get.

So you niche and keep niching until you have your ideal customer. Then, all of those clicks are much more likely to turn into business because you have what they want.

For example, let’s say you are a burger restaurant. Those 300 people that have now clicked through to look at your menu were people that like eating out, have disposable income, live within 20kilometres of your restaurant, and their favourite type of food is burgers.

It’s like they were made for you. And that is why a niche is really important. Suddenly those 300 clicks is worth so much more than the 300 clicks you had before.
