Marketing in 2020 – What’s Next?
It’s that time again. Prediction blogs left, right and centre. I’m going to cut to the chase and discuss five things that I suspect will be huge for marketing in 2020. I’ve also outlined how these could benefit your company.
Chatbots, SMS bots, email bots, messenger bots… they’re getting sophisticated enough now that you don’t know whether you’re chatting to a human or not. Get these right and they can be a hugely powerful tool for your business. Answer simple questions, prequalify enquiries, push people in the right direction, showcase your product or service and all before that potential customer has even had to speak to one of your (human) team. It’s like having an extra member of staff purely to warm up prospects and introduce them into how you do things.
Do you talk to your customers or tell them? Is it a back and forth dialogue? Companies that can demonstrate that they genuinely care will always be at an advantage to their competitors.
Strategies that encourage ongoing engagement with your client base and your prospect base will be more fruitful than traditional marketing methods. If people know they need something, they’ll find reviews online and order it. If people don’t know they need something, or quite how to solve a problem, you need to nurture them with that solution.
As mentioned above, if someone knows they need something they’ll most likely research reviews and buy it.
However, the opportunities are the prospects who have problems but they’re not quite sure how to solve them. As a company, you need to identify those targets and bring them under your wing. Offer them a feel for what you’re like. Give them a taste of the Joe Bloggs Ltd experience. “Wow if this is how they treat potential customers, imagine what it’s like being a customer”.
Equally, your existing customers need to be reminded of why they buy from you. Why would they never buy from someone else? Why would it be difficult to leave you?
4. Spark conversation
If you can’t create natural conversations and you’re not able to communicate with your target audience, then you’re wasting your time.
One of the main questions I ask myself on discovery calls and in initial meetings is “could I go for a drink with this person?”. If the chemistry isn’t there, if we don’t click and what I’m saying doesn’t resonate with them, then it doesn’t matter how much they think they need our services, they’ll never quite scratch that itch. Results can be great, but if it doesn’t quite feel right and doesn’t have a natural flow you’ll never build that long-lasting relationship that you hope your marketing efforts are leading to.
5. Inspiring stories
Would your customers be happy to give you a video testimonial? Better yet, would they give a video case study?
If the answer is no, you probably haven’t nurtured that relationship to the right point.
If the answer is yes, get those stories recorded and out into the world. How did your business solve a problem? How effective was the solution? And why would XYZ Ltd work with you again?
Prove your worth.
So there you have it. That’s my five predictions for marketing in 2020. All possible for any company, no matter what size, to implement.
