The Importance Of Leading With Value

I’ve done a few charity things over the past few years.

Running and cycling type stuff. It’s kept me fit and raised some dosh for charities that are close to my heart. 

Next year, however, I’m looking to donate my time rather than my little legs.

Why?

Because I can’t keep asking the same people for money!

Something interesting cropped up this week. I have a mate. Well, more of a “Facebook friend”, you know. He hasn’t donated to any of my fundraisers, which is fair enough. It’s a free world. I never went rattling a tin outside his house at four in the morning.

But now he’s decided to do a charity run himself…

… and, on top of the social media posts he does asking for donations, he’s started to DMs me.

Two wrongs don’t make a right but I’m not inclined to give him money because again he’s never donated to any of my events.

I might do… but then again I might not.

 

My point is – when you give first, you’re more likely to get back.

 

Like I keep saying, lead with value.

Joel and I give away a tonne of stuff. From emails and trainings to podcasts, webinars and guidebooks.

VALUE. Given away for free.

Will the thousands of people who consume this content turn into Codebreak clients?

No, of course not.

But a percentage will be more likely to because I gave them something first.

Most businesses don’t give. They take.

They never ask what they can do to help.

They just try and sell all the time. Badly. Which is why they become the people you avoid at parties!
